Irvine’s Volunteer of the Month this month is none other than Gerry Galuardi! The staff at Irvine Nature Center is so grateful for the work that Gerry does here every week, no one more so than Wally Vait, Irvine’s sole staff Manager of Facilities.
Wally nominated Gerry because “he’s doing a yeoman’s job. He’s extremely helpful and dedicated.” Gerry has been working on the grounds – and in the ground – with Wally and other volunteers to install a cistern for the education barn / camping area. The cistern will hold rainwater that washes down from the barn roof gutters. Water pumped from the cistern will be available to put out campfires after use, saving many hours hauling water from Irvine’s main building. “As you can see, he’s not afraid of mud!” Wally added.
“Gerry’s worth ethic and philosophy is truly remarkable,” noted Ben Fertig, Irvine’s new Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator. “I’m thrilled that he’s chosen to be a part of our volunteer community and appreciate all his hard work.”
Well done Gerry! Irvine Nature Center is inspired by your industriousness!
