Hibernation, Migration, Adaptation!

December 4, 2015 - Preschool, Preschool Weekly

Everyone is planning on getting warm this upcoming season!  How do you stay warm? How do animals stay warm during the long, cold winter? That was the question on our mind this week! We learned about hibernation, migration and adaptation through games, discussions, and hands-on exploration.  Outside we searched out areas that may be  a good place for an animal to cozy up for the cold months. We kept our eyes to the skies and searched for signs of migrating birds! For the first half of the week, we saw mostly raindrops. With rain came hikes to the stream, puddle play and wiggly worms!

Some of our favorite activities this week included:
-Hiking to the stream on our new property
-Acting out how animals hibernate
-Making quesadillas in the fox class
-Creating mosaic mud turtle shells with clay and broken tiles
-Meeting the screech owl in the rabbit class
-Creating journey sticks by wrapping discoveries onto our walking sticks with yarn
-Having family visitors come in and share with us

We are looking forward to the wonders that winter will bring! Until next time!
