EAT, DRINK & LEARN: ‘MARINE LIFE & MANHATTANS’

November 20 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$55 – $65

Marine Life & Manhattans

Understanding marine biology is crucial for protecting the earth’s oceans, climate and biodiversity. Many children dream of becoming marine biologists, but what does the job really entail? Marine scientist and educator Symone Barkley spends her time reading policies protecting endangered species, spending long days on boats catching sharks, teaching classrooms of middle school students and so much more. Walk down memory lane with Symone as she discusses the vast field of marine biology and how that dream is more attainable than you may think.

Symone Barkley (she/her) is a Baltimore-born scientist and educator who has had a wide range of experiences in the marine science field. Symone has studied algae, blue crabs, sand tigers, and sandbar sharks over the years in undergrad and graduate school. Even with her exciting research experience, Symone’s passion for educating young people about the ocean and the environment remains at the forefront of her priorities. She is proud to be supporting students and teachers through her presence on a number of local and regional environmental education and STEM boards and is also the Chief Learning Officer for Black In Marine Science.
