Autumn Trees, Blankets of Leaves

November 6, 2011 - Preschool Weekly

What lives under a log? We carefully comb the leaf litter.

This Week’s Adventures: The letter “Ll” led the way as we learned all about leaves.

Favorite Activities: We loved reading Leaf Man by Lois Elhert and creating our own leaf people along the trail. We created beautiful watercolor leaves, lanterns, and a class wreath. We predicted how many leaves were in our guessing jar and sorted and counted, too!

Next’s Week’s Theme: Musical Nature (focus on letter “Xx”)

Try this at home: Take a walk to gather your favorite fall leaves. Place them between the pages of a heavy phone book. Leave them to dry out for a few weeks. You’ll have your own stash of beautiful leaves for a nature collage this winter! We compare textures of leaf and bark rubbings.

We discover life in the leaves. Luke holds a salamander.

We look closely at leaves. The tulip poplar leaf looks like a fox face!

We sort leaves by color, size, shape, and even by smooth or toothed edges.
