The Nature Preschool at Irvine enjoyed getting introduced to Maple Sugaring! President’s day and snow closings and delays shortened our week considerably, but not enough to stop us from having fun! The children built sugar shacks using sugar cubes, and a sugary mortar that we whipped up! We read stories, sang songs, and played games all about maple trees and collecting sap!
Outside we practiced identifying maple trees by looking for branches that are shaped like the letter “Y.” We investigated the buckets that were hung from them and looked at some frozen sap!
We are so excited to extend the maple sugaring learning into next week! We can’t wait for warm pancakes drenched in delicious maple syrup!
